John William Sturdivant, Jr.’s passion for cooking and creating culinary experiences began in Madrid at the age of 11 and continued as he traveled the globe. He managed his first restaurant at the age of 17. As an adult, he continued on to become a Certified Sous Chef, Certified Chef de Cuisine (COC) and Certified Executive Chef. He served as the American Culinary Federation, Oklahoma City Chapter Secretary at age 18. He now has more than 25 years’ experience as an executive chef running all levels of restaurants from casual dining to 5-star, fine dining establishments.
John most recently opened Hudson's Hill Country. Previously, John opened the flagship Z’Tejas location in Austin and grew it from 6 locations to 24 throughout the US. During this time they were consistently named in the top 3 restaurants in Austin by the Austin Chronicle.
He prepared the menu and executed food preparation for President Obama’s Round Table Discussion in Austin in 2014; served as executive chef at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, Oklahoma City, St. Edwards University, and Horseshoe Bay Resort and Country Club.
John has won numerous American Culinary competition awards (from food preparation, various culinary styling to ice sculpting) and has multiple entries and features in food preparation magazines.
John and his wife, Laney, helped begin a community initiative at Community First Village in Austin, where formerly homeless people are housed, which now feeds a home cooked dinner to over 100 residents every Thursday evening.
